Young Napoleon- [Bonaparte à Milan]

After Bonaparte à Milan by Appiani
The Little Corporal began to redraw the map of Europe after his miraculous warpath. Though he thought of himself as a Byronic Hero guided by destiny, Napoleon (after his heroic victory) seized northern Italy with 2 of his inseparable qualities, his dynamism and his ruthless pragmatic ambition. Hailing as a hero to free Italy and wreathed in the banner of Republicanism- he came more like a wolf in sheep's clothing. Italy- piece by piece, would be France's vassal, and the platform of his greater burning ambitions. Many thought his lust was for Italy's loot, few knew he was already imagining himself another Caesar. Only some 2 years later he would seize France as his own, and then Italy as its King.
